Cardiologist Troy Norred Featured in Popular Mechanics Magazine
6/20/2016
Oklahoma City, Okla. (June 17, 2016) – AllianceHealth Medical Group Cardiologist Troy Norred, M.D., will be featured in the July issue of Popular Mechanics Magazine, for an invention he pioneered.
His invention is a heart valve replacement that is implanted without the patient requiring open heart surgery. This is a replacement heart valve that is placed into the patient through either the leg or arm and then is adjusted by the physician according to the needs of the individual patient. This results in much a shorter hospital stay and much faster recovery times. Using an implantable valve and this much less invasive technique can greatly reduce risks associated from complications from open heart surgery. Patients are normally back on their feet within one day, as opposed to the lengthy recuperation from open heart surgery.
“I had a patient who really needed to have a heart valve replacement but absolutely could not have surgery due to other health conditions in her past,” said Dr. Norred. “I felt that there may be a better way to help many patients in similar circumstances receive the care they need. ”
The magazine will hit newsstands June 22.
