Story from a patient's family member
Friday, May 31, 2013 was a trying time for all of us in the Oklahoma City metro area. For my family, we had the added scare of my mother-in-law having a heart attack just as the storm was moving through down-town Oklahoma City. As her family gathered in the emergency room waiting area at AllianceHealth Midwest, we were informed the hospital was at a level 2 and we needed to move into the interior of the hospital. Of course, we voiced our concerns about our family member and were told we would all be with her as we moved to the safe area of the hospital.
As the storm raged on, more people flowed into the hospital with very small children and a few pets. As the halls became filled with people, the staff moved families down to one area and individuals with pets down another hall. Everyone was asked and directed to the new areas with such ease and compassion that everyone moved without complaint. It all went very smoothly.
To my amazement and relief my mother-in-law had been stabilized with no real difficulties and every few minutes someone stopped by to ask how she was doing. After what seemed like an eternity we were redirected back to the emergency area and she was admitted for further tests.
Why I am writing to the CEO of this hospital…well I have no complaints. As unbelievably stressful as May 31 was for my family, your wonderful staff conducted themselves with such professionalism at doing the job they are expertly trained to do and the same level of professionalism was present in moving scared people, children and dogs. The staff from doctors, nurses, techs and security guards made May 31 far less stressful for my family and they need to be congratulated.
Many will say it is part of their jobs to handle emergency situations, but there must be some difference in having trauma patients brought to the hospital and knowing the trauma is directly overhead. Please extend a huge thank you and congratulations for a job, not done well, but done exceptionally well.
Story from Stephen A. Vice
Although this is often an overlooked task, I feel that I must bring to your attention the outstanding care and therapy provided to me by Ms. Karen Riley, RPT, of your Midwest Home Health team.
I am thankful to have had Ms. Riley as my home health physical therapist following my recent knee surgery. Ms. Riley's professional and courteous attitude, expert knowledge and patience is second to none. I always felt confident that I was getting the best care and was always at ease during my therapy sessions.
Ms. Riley is a true professional and is a credit to your patients, your hospital and your home health team.
Please pass on my sincere thanks for a job well done.
Going above and beyond
I would like to thank Mia for the excellent care she gave my mom while in the PCU at AllianceHealth Midwest. She went above and beyond her duties in keeping my mom comfortable and stable. She was constantly checking on her as well as keeping the family informed and answered all of our questions.

One of the sweetest people I have ever met
Aprille, my nurse on the 8th floor was constantly checking on me making sure I had everything I needed. She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met.

It’s important to know you are surrounded by people who care
As a floor tech on the 4th floor, Riley checked on my well-being several times a day and always offered to get things for me to make my stay more comfortable. When you are in the hospital, it is important to know you are surrounded by people who really care. Riley did that for me.
-Kim Todd
Always professional and compassionate
I have had Abram, my ER nurse, on several occasions due to my condition. He has never acted cross or put out by any of my requests. He is always professional and compassionate. He always has a smile on his face. I just wanted to recognize him for the outstanding job he does.
-Tammie Rowden
Always smiling
Gretchen on the 6th floor is a great caregiver. She always had a smile on her face and never got irritated with me. I never had to wait on my medication or ask for anything more than once. She is a great asset to your hospital. She is a great nurse who really cares for her patients.
-Joy Davis
Very attentive
Zak was very attentive to my needs while I was in the hospital. He took the time to explain some information about C.O.P.D. and breathing techniques. I tried one of them and it worked right away.
-Rita Nolen
Follows up on everything
Leyla is quite a nurse! She is kind, considerate and friendly. She was always on time and followed up on everything she started during my hospital stay.

Your billboard saved my life
For several months now, I have been short of breath and I basically chalked it up to being out of shape/overweight. In June, I was on my way to Georgia on business trip heading East on 40 and started having some burning in my chest muscles and what I thought was very bad heartburn.
Along the way, I noticed your billboard signs "Is this indigestion or a Heart Attack" Not only did the sign get my attention, but as a result I turned around and came back home. Long story short and several tests later, it was determined that my LAD was 100% blocked and my Diagonal was 95%. I had 2 stents put in...I believe your billboards saved my life. Thank You.

It meant the world to me
I was admitted to the ER at AllianceHealth Midwest. While I didn't know it at the time, I was in for a long morning of a painful procedure. Luckily my nurse, Anna, was there to help me out. She had a million other things to do, other people to see and work was to be done, but she was still awesome enough to take the time to provide great care to me.
She answered all my questions calmly and patiently. She made sure I understood what was happening so I never felt out of the dark. If I ever have to come back to AllianceHealth Midwest ER, which I will because of the great care, I hope I don’t see her there again. You read that correctly. She is way too bright and shiny to be stuck there. She was knowledgeable and has a confidence that is reassuring. She needs to be promoted/moved up and out in that world so she can be the one who can make positive changes. People like Anna are the first to leave; there are never enough Anna's in this world, and you don’t want to lose her.
While our country's healthcare system is constantly under attack from bad business practices to downright malfeasance, Anna is someone who can make great steps to making sure things are done right. While I understand that hospitals are money making institutions, I also know they are places that we all hope can make us better. Positive thinking and change are what give places, like AllianceHealth Midwest, hope. Anna imbibes all. I hope this message reaches her, her peers and her superiors. I want them to know Anna help me a lot today. And while I'm sure it didn't seem like much to her, it meant the world to me.
