Residency Program
Choosing a residency is a big decision, and one that creates stress and anxiety for many medical school graduates. Your residency is important because it’s a time of tremendous growth both in your clinical knowledge base as well as your professional development. Much of what you learn will come from patients. So you must find a program where you are motivated to learn and study about your patients and can become an excellent, caring, humanistic physician, as well as feel happy in your work and home environments.
Our residency program focuses on caring for the populations surrounding Bryan County. The varied and extensive clinical experiences residents receive in this program area are applicable to both urban underserved and rural practices. The residency program stands at the forefront of resident education with residents rotating at AllianceHealth Durant.
The Family Medicine Residency Program at AllianceHealth Durant is an ACGME Pre-accredited 36-month program. The residency program has, at its core, a group of dedicated clinical and academic faculty with extensive knowledge and experience in family medicine. With guidance from department faculty, residents are learning firsthand to provide personalized care for the whole family in any setting.
Durant Family Medicine Clinic is the primary outpatient-training site for residents. The family medicine program provides a unique opportunity for training in a rural setting that affords all the advantages of an urban teaching hospital without the dis-advantages of competition from other residency programs. Family medicine residents enjoy benefits of a great patient mix and volume in the following areas: family medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, emergency medicine, ICU/CCU, surgery, pediatrics, pathology, radiology and orthopedics.
The intern program has a general rotating (traditional) internship. It is a combined internship, in that it is anticipated that the intern will progress to resident status and is expected to advance to The Family Medicine Residency Program.
